The Icehouse

The Icehouse started its life as an ice cream distributorship in 1964.  In 2017, it was reborn as the New Groove City Music Complex (NGCMC).  It served the local music community by providing music lessons, rehearsal spaces, and recording (and broadcasting) studios.  In 2023, under new ownership, it morphed into The Icehouse.  Its new name serves as a respectful nod to its original existence.  Carrying on the NGCMC mission, The Icehouse offers band rehearsal studios, recording studios and spaces to local musicians.  As it continues to evolve, it will become a venue for album release events, outdoor music performances, and shared artist spaces.  Because of its location on the Pinellas Trail, it will evolve into a destination that gives trail riders, walkers, and runners a place to stop and cool off with music in the background from all genres.

Tim Church

I come from a musical family and started playing drums at 7 years of age.  By “started”, I mean I snuck around on my brother’s kit when I could get away with it.  My mother always had music in the house.  As a child, I also sang in an opera alongside my brother.   Granted, it was by maternal force, but today I appreciate the experience.  One of my nieces tried out for American Idol and did really well.  Not that I can take credit… just sharing.  While drums are my passion (I rocked metal in the 80s and 90s!) I love all instruments and enjoy noodling on the ukulele, mandolin, guitar, keyboards, and whatever I can get my hands on.  I play drums with The Disston Ridge Band (classic rock cover tunes) as a hobby.

I have a Franchise Development ‘day job’ that I love but I typically work from my office at The Icehouse because I just enjoy being surrounded music, the people that make music and a great fringe benefit; I can jump on the drums for a quick break between meetings.

I’m passionate about music in all forms and am an active member of the Board of Directors for Creative Clay.  I have been fortunate to be able to help some of Creative Clay’s member artists fulfill their musical aspirations.  See the “In My Heart Forever” video on the right.  What a great experience!

And we get to do other nice stuff too.  The Icehouse proudly sponsored the Live Creation Music Arts Foundation (LCMAF) live stream fundraiser and we’ll continue offering the space to LCMAF and other non-profits that can benefit from it.

Smiling Tim after receiving a sweet gift of vinyl from one of the Icehouse’s many visitors.
